Kaanchi Teaser - A Subhash Ghai Film

Gays Would Be Treated Differently In Films After SOTY: Rishi Kapoor

Tinselville is abuzz with the fact that Rishi Kapoor will be playing a gay character in Karan Johar's upcoming Student of the Year. When Times of India asked Rishi about his role, he clarified, "I wouldn't say he's gay... not the correct gender orientation. He's not married, is soft on the PT coach. It's a different take of what we have done. It is a very sensitive approach."

On whether gays will be portrayed differently henceforth, Rishi said, "Yes, the role is not a caricature in our film. Film characters depend on directors. In SOTY, it was a personal take by Karan, the director and Rishi, the actor."

Rishi's fans have an extra special reason to eagerly wait for SOTY's release. Apparently, he will be recreating his famous Dafliwale movements, originally seen in the movie Sargam, in the Radha song.

Age may have made him skip romantic roles but Rishi Kapoor remains a true professional even today. When asked about his equation with Karan Johar, Rishi told TOI, "... as a professional, he can't call me uncle. He could call me Chintu, Chintuji or even Rishi, but I don't believe in this uncle business…. I don't believe in bringing family relations to work. I never called Raj Kapoor papa or daddy on the sets, I called him Saab."

Ranbir: I Respect Aamir Khan But Not Following His Or Anybody Else's Route To Success

While Ranbir may claim it is a mere coincidence, industry watches could not help noticing that the similarity between Ranbir's intelligent choice of roles and impressive performances and the manner in which Aamir Khan has shaped his career.

Talking about 'following' Aamir's route to success and his father's comment that he ought to be doing action roles as well, Ranbir told TOI that he was not following anybody and was just interested in doing all types of cinema when he still had a chance.

He did not seem perturbed that his movies do not belong to the Rs 100-crore club and opined that movies that make less money should not be judged harshly for this reason alone.

About his supposed refusal to do Abhinav Kashyap's Besharam due to issues about remuneration, Ranbir pointed that money has never been a big deal for him. He unequivocally clarified, "I am pretty much part of Besharam and yes, I am doing films with both the Kashyap brothers."

Fans are looking forward to this movie where real-life cousins Ranbir and Kareena will play siblings on the big screen as well. There is speculation that even Rishi and Neetu will be seen in the movie.

Shaukeen Remake Runs Into Legal Trouble; Eagle Films Claims Remake Rights

$

Remember Shaukeen? The Utpal Dutt, Ashok Kumar, and AK Hangal starrer is probably Bollywood’s only attempt to portray lecherous dirty old men on the big screen. Despite its cheesy premise, the movie, which starred Mithun Chakraborty and Rati Agnihotri as well, ended up impressing the audience and is considered a cult classic.

Almost a year ago, Ronit Roy announced his decision to remake the Basu Chatterjee movie. This news received wide attention because of speculation that Rishi Kapoor, Boman Irani, and Naseeruddin Shah would reprise the role of the three ‘Shaukeen’ old men. With shooting set to begin, Eagle Video’s Aditya Bhatia now claims that he holds the right to remake this famous movie and that a formal decision will be announced in November.

Aditya claims that Rumi Jaffery has been asked to write and direct the movie, which will star Paresh Rawal, Anu Kapoor and, again, Rishi Kapoor. GOW star Huma Qureshi is expected to reprise Rati’s role.

Ronit continues to claim the right to make the remake and this battle over the lusty adventures of three old men will probably end up in the court.

Best Remake of a Sridevi song?

$
0
0

Besides an unending list of highly acclaimed films and performances, what makes Sridevi the First Female Superstar of Hindi Cinema is a roll-call of iconic chartbusters that have a permanent place in the Bollywood Hall of Fame. These songs and dances are not only evergreen classics but acts that stand witness to the supreme entertainer that Sridevi is. No wonder there's a sudden spurt of remaking and remixing some of her most famous numbers by film-makers now. While it is practically impossible to recreate the magic Sridevi created on screen, which of these recent remakes of her songs did you enjoy the most?

HAWA HAWAI (Shaitan 2012) - Every legend of Bollywood must have one definitive solo song that is remembered for ages. Sridevi was lucky to get more than one in films like Nagina, Chandni, Chaalbaaz and Lamhe. But when she shimmered down in a golden gown crooning 'Bijli girane main hoon ayi, Kehte hein mujhko Hawa Hawai' in the all-time hit Mr. India, you knew this was going to be historic. You also know why people said that the film should have been called Miss India. Hawa Hawai is vintage Sridevi with expressions and movements only she can do. (Watch the line 'Soorat hi maine aisi paai') The song was superbly remixed in club-house style with a deliciously raspy voice by Suman Sridhar in the dark drama Shaitan starring Kalki Koechlin in 2012. Sridevi and Kavita Krishnamoorthy must be surely proud!

CHANDNI O MERI CHANDNI (Char Din Ki Chandni 2012) - All the greatest actresses of Hindi cinema have one thing in common. A classic title role film that entirely revolves around them and works on their charisma and star power alone. From Mother India to Madhumati and Seeta aur Geeta, we have Mili, Bobby and Umrao Jaan. Sridevi joined this elite list when Yash Chopra chose her and created Chandni, the most beautiful film an actress could have and made the name synonymous with her. Besides celebrating her legendary beauty, Chandni's music was a Platinum Hit with Sridevi lending her voice to the zany Title-Track that is still a phenomenon. Tusshar and Kulraj recreated the number with full gusto and energy making it an ode to not just Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor and the Swiss Alps but Jeetendra too.

NA JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI (I, Me Aur Main 2013) - Sridevi's double-role act in Chaalbaaz ranks topmost among actresses in the Filmfare List of '80 Iconic Performances of Hindi Cinema' and won her the second Filmfare Best Actress Award (her first being for the Tamil film Meendum Kokila). The actress has rain dances aplenty but none that is loads of fun like this iconic slapstick track from Chaalbaaz that also got Saroj Khan her second Filmfare for Best Choreography. In 2012, Rani Mukerji paid a tribute to Sridevi by recreating this classic along with Sridevi's famous white raincoat and hat look in Aiyyaa but it is John Abraham who has come up with a smart gender-bender version of this song in his upcoming film with Chitrangada Singh and Prachi Desai crooning 'Kisike haath na aayega yeh ladka'.

NAINON MEIN SAPNA (Himmatwala 2013) - The 1983 Himmatwala is one of the few films that defines the era of the Exciting Eighties in Bollywood. Over the top drama and in your eye costumes and dances heralded the invasion of Southern masala that continues till today. It was also Sridevi's first super-success that paved her way to become the longest running No.1 actress of Hindi Cinema. Her Amrapaali costumes and patented thumkas with Jeetendra in tow became a national rage. The song was an instant chartbuster and over the years has become a cult classic and a must-have on every dance reality show today. No wonder Sajid Khan claims to have seen the film some 40 times in the theater and has now remade it. The song is out and Ajay Devgan and Tamannah surely try their best to match up to the legendary pair.

There's also news that Priyanka Chopra is recreating another all time Sridevi classic 'Kaate Nahin Kat te' from Mr. India in an upcoming film. Until that comes out, which of these above remakes gets your vote?

From Prithviraj Kapoor to Ranbir Kapoor, it’s delightful to see how the Kapoor khandaan has been carrying forward its legacy for four generations and continuing to entertain us! Here’s a look at the massive family tree of the Kapoor clan -

1st generation:

Prithviraj Kapoor

It all started with this Kapoor who was the first from the family to pursue acting. He made his debut with Alam Ara in 1931 and did a host of films after that. One of his most memorable performances is of the role of Akbar in Mughal E Azam. Prithviraj got married to Ramsarni Mehra and gave birth to Raj, Shammi, Shashi and Urmila.

2nd generation:

Raj Kapoor

Raj Kapoor, Bollywood’s Showman made outstanding contributions to Indian cinema. His renowned works include Mera Naam Joker, Andaz, Shri 420 to name a few. He married Krishna Kapoor and had 5 children – Randhir, Ritu, Rishi, Reema and Rajiv. This showman believed that “whatever happens, the show must go on” and indeed it did, with his children and grandchildren carrying forward his legacy beautifully.

Shammi Kapoor

Known to be India’s Elvis Presley, Shammi Kapoor changed the face of Indian cinema. Who can forget his hip-swinging moves to peppy dance numbers! He was the king of romance and his charm and boisterous nature will always be fondly remembered. He married Geeta Bali and had two children, Aditya and Kanchan. After a few years after Geeta’s death, he married Neela Devi Gohil.

Shashi Kapoor

The poster boy of those times, Shashi Kapoor was one hell of a heartthrob. He charmed the audience for years together with his chocolate boy looks and excellent acting. He married English actress Jennifer Kendal. They had 3 children – Karan, Kunal and Sanjana.

3rd generation:

Randhir Kapoor

The eldest son of Raj Kapoor, Randhir made his debut with Kal Aaj aur Kal which starred his grandfather, father and wife as well. Even though Randhir wasn’t around much, he did give a few hits. He married actress Babita. The couple has two daughters – Karishma and Kareena.

Ritu Kapoor Nanda

The eldest daughter of Raj Kapoor did not enter films. She is a prominent entrepreneur, married to Rajan Nanda. She has two children – Nikhil and Natasha. Nikhil Nanda is married to Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter, Shweta Bachchan Nanda.

Rishi Kapoor

One of Bollywood’s most loved hero who continued to make women swoon for many years, Rishi Kapoor is a living legend! He has been in the industry for 4 decades and still is as rocking as ever. Bollywood’s lover boy Rishi married his co-star Neetu Singh. They have two children – Riddhima and Ranbir.

Reema Kapoor Jain

Raj Kapoor’s second daughter too stayed away from films. She is married to Manoj Jain and has two sons – Armaan and Aadar. Reports say that Armaan will be making his acting debut soon. Reema appeared on Koffee with Karan with her brothers and Neetu Singh.

Rajiv Kapoor

Rajiv had a short stay in the film industry. He acted in only 13 films with the famous Ram Teri Ganga Maili being one of them. He also tried his hand in directing and producing films. He married architect Aarti Sabharwal but the marriage ended two years later.

Karan Kapoor

Shashi’s son, Karan was a famous model of the 1980s. He appeared in a few Hindi films before he started modeling for Bombay Dyeing. He later went on to become a photographer. He now lives in London with his wife and children.

Kunal Kapoor

Kunal too had a very short stint in the industry. He set up his own company, Adfilm-Valas, and started producing and directing television commercials. Kunal married Ramesh Sippy's daughter, Sheena. The couple got divorced and has two children.

Sanjana Kapoor

Sanjana who always had a love for acting ran the Prithvi Theatre for almost ten years. She then decided to leave and started her own theatre company, Junoon. She married wildlife expert Valmik Thapar and has a son, Hameer.

Aditya Raj Kapoor

While most of his family members were making their mark in Bollywood, Shammi Kapoor’s son, Aditya decided to become a businessman instead. However, the ‘Kapoor gene’ in him gave in and he decided to make his acting debut at the age of 53!

4th generation:

Karisma Kapoor

The first woman in her family to take up acting, Karisma Kapoor is a stunner. She came a long way from starting with Prem Qaidi to giving hits like Raja Hindustani, Zubeidaa, Fiza and many more. Karisma tasted both, commercial and artistic success. She married to industrialist Sunjay Kapur and has 2 children – Samaira and Kiaan.

Kareena Kapoor

The younger Kapoor sister is no less. Who would have thought that the actress who starred in movies like Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hain and Khushi would later become such a huge star! Also known as the 100 crore heroine, Kareena’s career graph has seen many ups and downs. Today, she is a highly acclaimed actress with several blockbusters in her kitty. The actress dated Shahid Kapoor for a while before marrying Saif Ali Khan, her boyfriend for 5 years.

Ranbir Kapoor

The newest Kapoor taking Bollywood by a storm, Ranbir is all set to make it to the top. His journey as an actor from Saawariya to Yeh Jawani Hain Deewani is surely noteworthy. I keep seeing A B C and D in the house - Rishi Kapoor on Ranbir's girls

$

Rishi Kapoor is a busy man these days with many movies up his sleeves. The most recent one being D Day where the legendary actor plays the bad guy. However, what makes Rishi Kapoor charming for the younger generation is that he is the father of the youth superstar Ranbir Kapoor.

Rishi Kapoor, in an interview to Filmfare talks about his son's romantic pursuits, something which Ranbir is (in)famous for. The proud father says,

"It’s an image given by the media. He’s not that kind. Even if he is why not? He’s successful. Any girl would like to date him. Abhi nahi karega toh kab meri umar mein aakey karega? This is the age to find a soul mate. (Laughs) He’s seeing everyone because I keep seeing A B C and D in the house. But I don’t think that A knows about B and C knows about D. The staff knows and I know. I’m still the boss of the house. The news reaches my ears"

Well well, what do you think about the ABCD concept? Can you say who are A,B, C & D?

Rishi Kapoor, The Sinhas & the Roshans at Ekta's Iftar Party

Why did Rishi Kapoor lose his calm?

$

According to Mumbai Mirror, Rishi Kapoor recently lost his temper at a fan during Ekta Kapoor's Iftaar party.

A man in his 60s who called himself Rishi's fan followed the actor to the bathroom and eagerly waited outside for an autograph. When Rishi came out, his reaction was rather unexpected. An eyewitness told Mirror, "Rishi shooed him away with some extremely offensive language as he was irritated at being accosted inside the washroom. No one expected such behaviour from him, he is such a popular and senior actor."

When Mirror contacted the actor, he replied saying,"When you go to the washroom to do what you have to do and at that moment someone wants your autograph what do you say?"

We wonder what made the actor react so violently. We're guessing something must be really bothering him because such a behaviour coming from someone like him is surprising.
